Digital2020” (or “D2020”) is an initiative that aims to accelerate digital financial inclusion and access to finance in Nepal. It is a multi-pronged approach involving all stakeholder groups – public, private and donors – to shift the prevailing mindset in favor of digital payment platforms.
D2020 is conceived on the assumption that Nepal's digital payments layer is primed for expansion. With mobile penetration rates pushing north of 100%, declining cost per unit of mobile data, and high-speed internet solutions expanding into tier-2 urban settings and beyond, the required physical infrastructure is largely present (and expanding). Add to these attributes an estimated 50%+ internet penetration rate and the discussion shifts naturally to the domain of digital payments.
Building on the foundation of D2020, a cash-less society where citizens have access to a range financial services and products can be a digital reality for Nepal.
